University of Glasgow Rectorial Election, 2008

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There was an election for the post of Rector of the University of Glasgow in February 2008. Polling took place on the 26th and 27th, via an online voting system, using the alternative vote system. The winner was Charles Kennedy with 11% of the electorate's vote and a 46% share of the 5108 who voted. He will replace Mordechai Vanunu on the 10th April 2008.

This election was relatively low-key, and was marked by a turn away from the "international figurehead" or "celebrity" rectors who have sometimes held the post. All four candidates were graduates of the university, they were all potential "working rectors", and three of them lived in the Glasgow area.
