The College of Journalism and Communications is a college of the University of Florida. It comprises four departments: Journalism, Telecommunication, Advertising, and Public Relations.
The college traces its origins to 1916. The Department of Journalism began operations in 1925. The first three journalism degrees were awarded in 1928. [1]
In 1953, the School of Journalism and Communications was established. In 1967, the school became a full-fledged college. Rae O. Weimer became the first dean. The college's current building, Weimer Hall, is named for him. Weimer began teaching in the Department of Journalism in 1949; he had been managing editor at PM, a daily newspaper in New York.
The centerpiece of the journalism programs at UF is WUFT, which consists of both a PBS television station and an NPR radio station. The commercial radio station, WRUF AM850, is also one of the oldest stations in the state.

[edit] ABC News at UF
ABC News will open a mini-bureau in the University of Florida’s College of Journalism and Communications in September.[2]
UF is among the top five U.S. universities chosen for the ABC News On Campus program. Students will work as staffers in each of the bureaus, contributing story ideas and using equipment provided by ABC. The program will allow ABC to expand its news-gathering resources while training future journalists.
The students will be paid and receive extensive training from ABC News starting in August. Their work will be seen on both broadcast and digital platforms.
[edit] Curriculum
The College of Journalism and Communications offers a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism, telecommunication, advertising, or public relations; a Master of Arts in mass communications; a Master of Advertising; and the Ph.D..
