University of Engineering and Technology, Taxila

University of Engineering and Technology is located at Taxila, Punjab, Pakistan. It was established in 1979 as a campus of University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore. It was chartered as an independent university in 1993.

It offers degrees in six different ares of study in engineering, namely: Computer, Telecom, Software, Electrical, Civil and Mechanical. Located near the historical site of Julian University, an ancient Buddhist university, it offers a blend of both old and new.

With phenomenal increase in student enrollment in 1970s, a plan to established additional campuses of the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore was conceived. As a result of that, the University College of Engineering Taxila was established in 1975. For three years it functioned at Sahiwal. In 1978 it was shifted to its permanent location at Taxila. The College continued its working under the administrative control of the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore till October 1993. During this month it received its charter as an independent university under the University of Engineering and Technology Taxila Ordinance 1993. At present total enrollment of undergraduate and postgraduate students is about 1400.

The university campus is located on the outskirts of Taxila at a distance of 5 km from the city. It is situated near railway station Mohra Shah Wali Shah on Taxila-Havelian branch line. The city of Taxila is 35 km from the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi Peshawar highway. The University buses commute daily between the campus and the cities of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Wah and Hasan Abdal. The campus covers an area of 109 acres and houses all the teaching departments, residential colony for teachers/employees, student's hostels, guest house, post office and bank. The computer, software and telecommunication programmes have been offered successfully in 2001, 2002 and 2007 repectively. The university building of Computer Department and library have just completed due to sincere efforts of current vice chancellor Prof. Dr. Habibullah Jamal. Recently four new hostels with separate girls' hostel are built. Capabilities of electrical and mechanical blocks are enchanced by extending them. Separate electronics program will be launched in 2008. The university has around four Centers of Excellence in it. Including Center of Excellence for Transportation, Control, Video and Image Processing and ASIC and DSP. The university turns out almost 600 undergraduates, 200 graduate each year. The current Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Habibullah Jamal has given a tremedious growth in all areas including civil works, education, facultity improvement and research in the university.
