The University of California Natural Reserve System (UC NRS) is the largest and most diverse system of university-administered reserves in the world. The University of California NRS manages 35 wildland sites, which encompass about 130,000 acres (530 km²) and include examples of most of California's ecosystems. The reserve system is used for teaching, research, and public service.
