University Medical Center Utrecht

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Universitary Medical Center Utrecht (Dutch: Universitair Medisch Centrum Utrecht) or UMCU is the main hospital of the city of Utrecht. It is affiliated with the Universiteit Utrecht.

Special units include:

  • Neurosurgery
  • Cardiothoracic surgery
  • Neonatal and pediatric surgery and intensive care
  • Pediatric oncology
  • Level I trauma center

Adjacent to the UMCU lies an underground military facility known as the Centraal Militair Hospitaal (Central Military Hospital), or CMH. This facility is also occasionally used in peacetime for treating groups of Dutch citizens who might have been infected with infectious diseases (for example, repatriated wounded Dutch citizens after the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami).
