University College of Gävle

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The University College of Gävle (Swedish: Högskolan i Gävle) is a university college located in Gävle, Sweden. Established in 1977, it has six departments offering "approximately 50 degree programmes and 800 elective courses".

The institution offers the Swedish version of Bachelor's and Master's degrees, as well as the corresponding professional degrees but it does not offer postgraduate education at the Ph.D level, which is a requirement for university status in Sweden, and is defined by the Swedish National Agency for Higher Education as a university college. However, as many other Swedish university colleges, it defines itself as a "university" in its English-language information [1], in accordance with the looser definition of the term used in some English-speaking countries, particularly the USA.
