University Station is an LRT station operated by Edmonton Transit System in the city of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It is located beneath the University of Alberta campus at 112 Street and 89 Avenue.
University Station was opened August 23, 1992 and was the first LRT Station located on the south side of the North Saskatchewan River. It is connected to Grandin (Government Centre) Station by the Dudley B. Menzies Bridge[1], a dedicated LRT bridge (with a lower level for pedestrians and cyclists). With the exception of the bridge and its approaches, the LRT line between Grandin Station and University Station runs through underground tunnels.
Connections can be made to regular ETS transit routes, as well as the Strathcona County and St. Albert transit systems, at the University Transit Centre located on the surface above the station.
University Station was the southern terminus of the LRT line prior to the opening of the Health Sciences Station on January 3, 2006.[2]
