Universal Torah Registry

The Universal Torah Registry is a recent project established by the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of New York designed to protect and secure Jewish Torah scrolls from theft. As these scrolls may be valued at about $20,000 and could fetch similar amounts on the black market, synagogues have been a target of thieves.
Most synagogues and Jewish communities are not aware of this program and very few have signed on because the JCRC would never be able to speak or be heard on behalf of the entire spectrum of Jewish communities in the United States.
