Universal Newsreel

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Universal Newsreel (sometimes known as Universal-International Newsreel or just U-I Newsreel) was a series of 7-10 minute newsfilms that were released twice-a-week between 1929 and 1967. Just about every one of them were filmed in black-and-white, and in recent years, have appeared on cable television's History Channel as part of the TV series Year-By-Year, which has also aired on History Channel International more recently. Narrators during the 39 years of production have included Ed Herlihy, who had also been noted as the voice of several Kraft TV commercials during the 1960s, 1970s, and the early-1980s.

The Universal Newsreel collection is in the public domain and is not exclusively owned by anyone outright, although there are many stock footage libraries which holds pieces of the collection.
