Unitrans 2820-2822

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Unitrans 2820-2822 are three Gillig Phantom transit buses that had been operated in special shuttle service by Unitrans in Davis, California. 2821 and 2822 were later operated in regular service by Unitrans.

These buses were purchased new in 1988 by the UC Davis Transportation and Parking Services (TAPS) for use on the TAPS Intracampus Shuttle, a shuttle bus route that ran between the central UC Davis campus (passing by The Quad along California Avenue) and the Vet Med Center. The buses were painted in a special TAPS paint scheme that consisted of a white base color with yellow and blue stripes running front to back along the mid-section of the bus. The TAPS shuttle service was funded by TAPS but was operated by Unitrans. Upon discontinuance of the Intracampus Shuttle in 1993, the buses were used on the UCD-UCDMC Shuttle that provided service to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, CA. This service was funded by TAPS and UCDMC but was operated by Unitrans until 1995, when the operations were taken over by UCDMC staff. In the summer of 1999, buses 2821 and 2822 were acquired by Unitrans and repainted into the current red paint scheme. They are the shortest single-deck transit buses on the Unitrans fleet.
