[edit] Democratic
The Democratic primary took place on February 5, 2008, also known as Super Tuesday. Polls indicated that New York Senator Hillary Clinton was leading rival Senator Barack Obama in the days leading up to the contest,[1] and she won with 56% of the vote.[2]
Obama had received the endorsements of Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick as well as Senators John Kerry and Ted Kennedy while Clinton received endorsements from Boston mayor Thomas Menino and House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi. Obama won Boston by under 10,000 votes, while Clinton won other urban and conservative towns.[3]

[edit] Superdelegate dilemma
As the convention looms with Clinton and Obama running too close for either to clinch the nomination, a dilemma has arisen among the commonwealth's Democratic Superdelegates. Although the voters of the commonwealth voted for Clinton, Superdelegates Deval Patrick, John Kerry, and Ted Kennedy publicly endorsed Obama. Should these Superdelegates vote with their endorsement or with their constituents?
[edit] Republican
The Republican primary took place on February 5, 2008, with 40 national delegates.[4] Polls indicated that former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney was leading rival John McCain;[2] he ended up defeating McCain by roughly 10% of the vote.
