From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Being home to Washington D.C northern suburbs and Baltimore, Maryland is now a reliably democratic state. Therefore, it went unsurprisingly for John F. Kerry, who won with a margin of victory of 13% against President George W. Bush. However, this margin was lightly slimmer in 2000 , when Gore won by a margin of 16%.
Kerry was very dominant in the urban centers of Baltimore City, Prince George's County, and Montgomery County (Baltimore and Prince George's are mostly black as well.) Other counties trended toward the middle, with Baltimore County, Howard County, and Charles County leaning Kerry and Anne Arundel County (home of the Naval Academy) and certain rural counties leaning Bush. Bush was extremely dominant in much of the Eastern Shore and even more so in the western part of the state, with Queen Anne's County, Carroll County, and extremely rural Garrett County voting most strongly Republican.
