The 2004 United States presidential election in California refers to how California participated in the 2004 United States presidential election. California confirmed its reputation as a blue state by voting for the Democratic challenger, Senator John Kerry by almost 10% over President Bush. Republicans have not taken California's electoral votes since George H.W. Bush's victory in 1988 against Michael Dukakis.
