1964 presidential election in Arizona was the closest statewide contest this year, deciding just by 0.99%, even if this was home state of Republican nominee, Senator Barry Goldwater.
Although Goldwater was a popular Senator (winning re-election in 1958 by 56.1%), it was close to his home state to went to Johnson.
