In 2004, Democrat Patty Murray faced Republican Representative George Nethercutt, Libertarian J. Mills and Green Mark Wilson. Murray defeated the field 55% - 43% - 1% - 1%, making her only the fourth Washington senator to win 3 consecutive terms, just after fellow Democrats Warren G. Magnuson and Scoop Jackson.
