United States Senate election in North Dakota, 1992
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The 1992 U.S. Senate election for the state of North Dakota was held November 3, 1992.
Senator Kent Conrad did not run for reelection to his seat (though he did stand in a 1992 special election for the state's other Senate seat). Conrad's seat was sought by Dem-NPLer Byron Dorgan and Republican Steve Sydness.
Dorgan ran after serving as the U.S. representative for North Dakota's at-large congressional district from 1980 to 1992. Dorgan defeated Republican candidate Steve Sydness and gained the seat. [1]
The endorsed Republican candidate was Steve Sydness, a successful businessman and CEO. Only Dorgan filed as a Dem-NPLer. Dorgan and Sydness won the primary elections for their respective parties.
One independent candidate, Tom Asbridge, also filed before the deadline.
