United States Senate election in Michigan, 2008

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Michigan United States Senate election of 2008 will be held on November 4, 2008.
Incumbent Democrat Carl Levin has announced he will seek re-election. Levin is the head of the powerful Senate Armed Services Committee. Levin's 2002 opponent Andrew Raczkowski considered running again, but military commitments forced him to drop out. State representative Jack Hoogendyk declared his candidancy to challenge Levin.[1] Troy engineer Bart Baron is also running.[2]

Baron apparently failed to qualify for the August 5, 2008 party primary ballot in the Michigan Secretary of State's office but he may run as a write-in candidate. So only Hoogendyk will be listed on the Republican side in the Michigan primary election.[3] Levin is unopposed on the Democratic side. The filing deadline for candidates to run was May 13.[4]

Levin is expected to easily win re-election.
