The 2008 Illinois election for the United States Senate will be held on November 4, 2008. The Democratic candidate is incumbent Dick Durbin. Dr. Steve Sauerberg won the Republican primary. The Congressional Quarterly has declared this race "Safe Democrat", and Karl Rove's now famous PowerPoint presentation referred to the Illinois Senate race as non-competitive.

- Larry Stafford, an Army Veteran, active member of the Rockford Area Libertarian Party since 1999, Illinois Volunteer Coordinator for the 2000 Harry Browne (Libertarian) Presidential Campaign, and current truck driver with Reynolds Cartage, was unanimously selected by the party as its nominee at its State Organizing Committee meeting in January 2008.
