United States Ambassador to Syria

This is a list of United States ambassadors to Syria. The American embassy to Syria was established 1952-09-11.[1]
Prior to 1952:
- George Wadsworth (1942-1944) (Consul General), promoted to Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary (1944-1947)
- James Hugh Keeley, Jr. (1947-1950) (Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary)
- Cavendish W. Cannon (1950-1952) (Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary)
Post 1952:
- James S. Moose, Jr. (1952–1957)
- Charles W. Yost (1957–1958)
From 1958-02-25 the Embassy in Damascus was reclassified as a Consulate General and the mission was re-established as an Embassy on 1961-10-10.
Syria severed diplomatic relations with the U.S. on 1967-06-06. The U.S. established a U.S. Interests Section on 1974-02-08 in the Italian Embassy with Thomas J. Scotes as Principal Officer. The Embassy in Damascus was re-established on 1974-06-16 with Scotes as Charge d'Affaires ad interim.
