From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
UN Security Council Resolution 661 adopted by the UN Security Council at its 2933rd meeting on 6 August 1990.
This was the second resolution by the UN Security Council over the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. It placed economic sanctions on Iraq. When these did not persuade Iraqi Government to withdraw its army from Kuwait the United Nations authorised the use of force and the Gulf War of 1990, which ended the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait.
