From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

United Nations Security Council Resolution 62, adopted on November 16, 1948, decided that in order to transition from the present truce established by United Nations Security Council Resolution 54 to a permanent peace an armistice would be established in all sectors of Palestine. The council called upon all the parties directly involved in the conflict to seek agreement with the Acting Mediator over the delineation of permanent armistice demarcation lines beyond which none of their armed forces would move and to a reduction of their forces as to ensure the maintenance of the armistice during the transition to permanent peace in Palestine.
