The United Learning Trust (ULT) is an educational charity in England, created to manage a number of Academies spread across the country. ULT is a subsidiary of the not-for-profit charity, the United Church Schools Trust (UCST) and shares with it the objective of managing schools which offer students a high quality education. With an ethos based on their founding Christian principles of respect, service and compassion, discipline and hard work, ULT helps to prepare young people for a rewarding and enriching adult life.
ULT is currently involved with 13 academies. The existing academies in Manchester, Lambeth, Northampton, and Salford were joined in September 2006 by ULT’s new Academies in Barnsley, Walthamstow, Paddington, and two in Sheffield (Sheffield Springs Academy and Sheffield Park Academy). Work is progressing on a new Academy in Stockport and three proposed Academies in Banbury, Swindon, and another one in Manchester.
It currently is looking likely also that as of September the ULT will be running a new academy in Midhurst, West Sussex. this academy would take over from Midhurst Grammar School. However, this has met fierce opposition from the press, groups who feel religion and education should be kept separate and many students, citing a fear of to much freedom to alter the curriculum in a way that is biased to Christianity.
