United Genders of the Universe is a genderqueer support group located in both Berkeley and San Francisco California that caters to people of all genders, all body types, all identies, and of all ways to express themselves.
The group is entirely run by trained volunteer group facilitators who ensure positive group dynamics. Discussions in group meetings can touch on any number of topics, but regularly these discussion can be on topics like, body image, relationships, family issues, and visibility in the community.
Besides support groups, United Genders also runs a speakers bureau that put on presentations and workshops for any institution or organization wanting some gender education and has been the principle organizer behind the Trans March that kicks off Pride weekend in the last weekend of June. Workshops and presentations put on by the speakers bureau often touch on topics such as necessary terms to know in relation to the genderqueer community, the difference between sex and gender, legal options for genderqueer people who encounter discrimination, and the personal stories of the speakers.
The group's operation mostly relies on voluntary contributions from group attendees and community allies. Recently it has also began applying for foundation grants specifically geared towards community activism.
