UnionsWA is the peak Trades and Labour Council in Western Australia.

[edit] Name changes
Originally known as the Trades & Labor Council, Perth from 1891, the organisation has gone through several name changes including the Western Australian Branch of the Australian Labour Federation in 1907; Australian Labor Party (WA) in 1927; Trade Unions Industrial Council (ALP, WA) in 1947. In 1963 the organisation was deregistered and a new organisation called Trades & Labor Council of Western Australia came into being until the most recent name change in April 2000 to UnionsWA.
The latest name change coincided with the dedication of a new Perth Trades Hall on May Day, 2000.
[edit] Structure
In 2005 UnionsWA had 49 affiliated trade unions and is the peak decision-making body of the Western Australian union movement. Delegates meet monthly to consider issues affecting the working conditions of Western Australians and determine strategies to improve them. The offices of Unions WA are located at 79 Stirling Street, Perth with the Secretary being Dave Robinson, formerly with the CSA. Stephanie Mayman, the previous Secretary, was appointed to the WAIRC as a Commissioner about a year ago. UnionsWA implements Australian Council of Trade Unions policy within Western Australia, representing the state union movement on a statewide, national and international basis.
