Union school district

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A union school district or union high school district in California (and possibly other) state law[citation needed] is a school district that has been formed by the consolidation of several smaller elementary school or high school districts for reasons of economy, efficiency, or enrollment. Union school districts are distinct from unified school districts in that union districts do not have both primary and secondary components.

Note that the Union School District in San Jose is not actually a "union school district"; it was named in support of the Union Army during the American Civil War.
