Union of the Centre (historical)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Union of the Centre (Unione di Centro, UdC) was a small Italian political party, founded in 1994 after the disbanding of the Italian Liberal Party by some important Liberal figures, as Alfredo Biondi and Raffaele Costa.

At the 1994 general election the group joined the centre-right coalition formed around Forza Italia and elected some candidates in the list of this party (Alfredo Biondi, Raffaele Costa, Enzo Savarese, Enrico Nan and Livio Caputo). In the first Silvio Berlusconi's government, Biondi was justice minister and Costa health minister. In 1998 the group merged in Forza Italia.

In 2003 many former UdC members formed Popular Liberalism, a liberal faction within Forza Italia.
