The Union School District was founded in 1919 along the boundaries of the city of Tulsa and Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. The enrollment was so small back then, it only graduated FOUR people. As Tulsa and Broken Arrow grew, so did Union, who opened their new high-school doors in the early 70s. Change seemed to dominate Union's Music and Fine Arts department throughout the remainder of the decade. By 1980, students and staff thought the time had come for Union's music program to adopt a unique name that portrayed the band's proud image and to reflect the new direction that all marching band programs were taking all across the nation...
The Renegade Regiment was born!
After the High School opened in 1793, Union began to update their music and marching band program as well. As the decade came close to an end, high school bands throughout Oklahoma started to take notice of Union and the Renegade Regiment. In the early 80s, marching bands were still forming their sterotypical halftime shows. With the success of Bands of America, the increased visibility of Drum Corps International, and the beginning of Oklahoma Bandmasters Association, it was obvious halftime shows were becoming more than just simple lines and blocks into something more complex. Union quickly adapted to this trend and became trendsetters of their own. By the end of the 80s, The Renegade Regiment had "raised the bar" for many other state bands. Union not only established themselves as one of the premiere marching bands in Oklahoma, they had also earned the respect of high school music programs across the nation.
