[edit] History
Union High School (Modoc) was formed in 1952 after the closing of three small high schools: Modoc High School, Losantville High School, and Huntsville High School. For the first five years, students attended the old Modoc High School. In 1957, the new building was finished, and all students were relocated to the new building. In 1968 an addition was completed allowing Blountsville School, which housed grades 1-8, to be closed and consolidated with Union.
[edit] School name
There are currently several theories as to how Union High School got its name. One theory is that the school is named after the township in which Union High School is located, since the original school name was Union Township High School. Another theory is that Union High School was one of the first high schools to be consolidated from several small schools, and from this officials took Union from the word United. A third theory is that the name comes from the fact that there are two different counties included in the district.
[edit] School district
Union High School is located in Union Township in southwestern Randolph County, Indiana. The district also goes into Stoney Creek Township in Henry County, making Union one of only a few two-county school systems in the state of Indiana.
[edit] Academic Policy
The Union School Board of Trustees voted to impose eligibility guidelines more stringent that the IHSAA minimum guidelines. The Board voted to establish a "NO F" policy requiring student athletes as well as participants in extra curricular activities to pass every class in order to maintain eligibility.
