[edit] Union City intermodal rail station
Service at this station began on September 11, 1972.[2]
The station has been proposed to become a regional rail intermodal station. The intermodal station will serve BART trains, Capitol Corridor intercity trains, and Caltrain commuter rail service to the Peninsula via a new rail bridge located near the Dumbarton bridge. For now, the Dumbarton Express bus service provides service to the peninsula.[3]
Officials with Bay Area Rapid Transit, AC Transit and the city of Union City, California, held groundbreaking ceremonies for the new multimodal passenger facility on November 13, 2007. The project includes a conversion to solar power generation for the station's energy needs, which could make it the first station in the United States to be powered by solar energy. The construction is expected to cost $100 million and be completed in 2015.[4]

- City of Union City Intermodal Station District Building on years of planning, this 2007-2013 plan proposes higher quality of life development for the Union City BART station and surrounding blocks. The plan includes phased development of shared public space (park and community plaza), high-rise residential space and office space. This is "Transit-Oriented Development" or TOD, common in Europe and Japan, and coming soon to more US cities. If you live around here or pass by on the train, you can see some development already on both sides of the tracks.
