From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Unicenter AutoSys Job Management is an application by Computer Associates that is used in large Enterprises for cross platform job scheduling.
The current incarnation is version 4.5 which has been GA since 2002. This version comes bundled with a customized version of eTrust Access Control giving administrators full security management of their schedules.
The next version, known as R11, is expected in Q3 2007. It will be bundled with the open source Ingres database, or may be used with an existing unbundled database from the following list: Sybase, Oracle, MS-SQL Server.
The Event Servers and Event Processors are supported on: Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, Linux and Windows servers.
Clients (Remote Agents) can be run on the above, and also z/OS, OS/390, zSeries, VSE, OpenVMS, iSeries, Mac OS X.
[edit] History
AutoSys was first developed by William Arntz and Walter Goodwin who created AutoSystems Ltd to market it. The product was then sold to Platinum Technology International. Platinum Technology International was bought by Computer Associates in 1999 for $3.5bn.
[edit] Components
It has a Server/Client Architecture and requires a 3rd Party Database. The bundled Sybase database, previously shipped with AutoSys, is no longer available.
- Event Server — The database containing the job definitions and events.
- Event Processor — The daemon which reads from the Event Server and sends the job stream to the Remote Agent
- Remote Agent — The Remote Agent is the client component of AutoSys and will execute the command as defined and write the result back to the Event Server.
- Shadow Event Processor — The daemon running on the DR or COB Server which takes over from the Event Processor if it is interrupted.
- 3rd Machine — An AutoSys Remote Agent that acts as the tie breaker if the Event Processor and Shadow Processor lose connectivity with each other.
The GUI is known as Unicenter Workload Command Centre (UWCC). The current version of this application is UWCC SP4, and it is freely available to AutoSys customers. This is a browser-based application which allows job management and editing, plus customizable view creation and granular permissions to be created. UWCC R11 is expected to be released at the same time as AutoSys R11.0
