União dos Palmares

União dos Palmares is a municipality located in the Brazilian state of Alagoas. Its population was 59,369 (2005) and its area is 428 km²[1].

The city of União dos Palmares has a historic importance to African-Brazilian people once more than 300 years ago they brought up one of the most important African slavers center of resistance against slavery in its lands when slavers founded an independent republic named Quilombo dos Palmares. Picture below shows a monument made in honor of Zumbi dos Palmares, the leader and hero of Quilombo movement.
