[edit] Purpose

What's the purpose of this NavBox? It is redundant to most of the topics in {{USCongress}}. Furthermore, it squeezes content in articles such as List of United States Senate committees.—Markles 13:45, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

  • Hi Markles. The purpose of this template was to make the Senate articles look like the articles about the US Supreme Court, which use a similar infobox navigation template (which was already in place, I only modified its style). In addition, I added such a navigation template to the US Constitution articles after finding them very painful to navigate while doing research. I completely agree that this Senate one is redundant with the navigational box at the bottom of the pages. Thus, if consensus is reached, I will go and remove all of the Senate infobox navigation template. Let me know what you think (you being a much more experienced user, I'll defer to your judgement). --CapitalR 00:07, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
    • Well, CR, I think uniformity is a very good thing in Wikipedia. However, I don't like this vertical NavBox. It's too cumbersome in the article; it scrunches the content of the article. I don't know if there's a Wikipedia policy to this point, but here's what I'm thinking: a horizontal NavBox at the bottom of the article is easier to get to because you only have to go to the bottom instead of searching along a long vertical list that runs down to the middle of the article. In general, short VertNavBoxes are OK— see, e.g., {{US Historical Document}}. Furthermore, the nice thing about the HorizNavBox ({{USCongress}}) is that it has House+Senate+Other all together. I welcome your response.—Markles 00:25, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
