Talk:University of the Philippines Official Seal
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Eagle versus Parrot: Isn't the bird depicted in the seal a parrot? I remember my seniors telling us before that the bird is definitely not an eagle. They said it was a parrot because of its seemingly intellectual skills such as mimicking speech. Kindly clarify.

Also, check this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UP_Fighting_Maroons Interestingly enough, the UP Fighting Maroons were once called "Parrots" Credits go to my friend, Jalvi for pointing this out.

I agree! During Freshman Orientation they told us it was a parrot.
I hope this can be clarified as a lot of students have been mislead if it is indeed an eagle.

Does anyone know what happened to the seal used during the 1998 Centennial? The one showing Oble on a reversed maroon triangle, surrounded by a green circle in flaming letters. I'll link if I find a sample.
And I could have sworn that the symbols were supposed to represent Engineering, Medicine, and Agriculture.
