[edit] The Beginning

I found this page a few days ago. I go to USF St. Petersburg so I'd be interested in adding more to it. I'm not very experienced in editing pages in Wikipedia. I guess all I can say is, if anyone is better at this than me can you add more? I was think of adding more to the Residence Hall section. Also, maybe adding a content box, once more content is added. I guess other content could be the Florida Center for Teachers on the campus, the Barnes & Noble Cafe, the Nelson Poynter Library, etc. --BaRiMzI 18:57, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

There is an image at http://www.stpt.usf.edu/housing/images/RHODed.Invite.jpg of the Residence Hall. I'm not sure if it's considered fair use to use this, as it is found on a website, but I would be happy to take a picture and upload it. Yubimusubi 04:33, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Thats actually the same image i tried to use to show Residence Hall and it was removed. I guess if credit is given properly, I didnt do a good job, then it might be usable under fair use.

I've added just about all I could to this page. I'm proud of it, it's no longer a stub. Finally got that content box. But the page needs more. I'm asking an other USF St. Pete students to contribute or at least give some ideas. --BaRiMzI 18:56, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm trying to find as much information as I can about USF St. Pete but it's somewhat hard. If anyone who knows about the school history can contribute, that'd help expand the page.--BaRiMzI 17:42, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

There is still a lot of information needed to improve this page. We need pictures and more information. I've added markers to certain sections in hope that others will contribute. [edit] Assessment request

One of the editors of this article requested an assessment at WikiProject Florida. Here are a few items that could be addressed.

  • Use the abbreviation after the first mention of it, or at least use some pronouns. The lede uses "University of South Florida Saint Petersburg" seven times after the abbreviation "USFSP" is noted. The flow of the lede would be significantly improved by substitution. (see Manual of Style-Acronyms and Abbreviations for more infomation on this topic.)
  • Almost every subsection is tagged as needing expansion. This is not really necessary, since some of the sections are sufficiently expanded (such as the Academics section) that they can stand on their own without additional information.
  • Remove all the links to each college in the Academics section. Keep the links used as inline cites for the missions, as they are appropriate. (see below for discussion of external links.)
  • Remove faculty, staff, and member listings, as none of the individuals are notable enough to merit Wikipedia articles of their own. As currently constructed, they are simply lists and don't add any context or value to the article. If any of the listed faculty or staff were to be achieve notoriety, a simple prose addition would be sufficient to note their affiliation (for example, "John Doe was a reporter for the campus newspaper when he broke the story about Robert Mugabe's homosexual affair with Kim Jong Il"). Maintaining lists can become a chore, as well, since faculty and team members change each year.
  • In the Library section, remove the {{seealso}} link to Nelson Poynter. His name is linked in the written section, and his article adds no context to the information about the library. In fact, some of the information in this article should be added to the Nelson Poynter article, which is rather underdeveloped.
  • Remove the list of student organizations. None of the listed organizations are notable. A simple inline link to the listing would be more than sufficient to note their existence.
  • Remove the entire "Traditions" section, as the content falls under Wikipedia is not a Lyrics database. There is no data about authorship, composition date, or history, and the lyrics themselves are most likely copyrighted, and as such are not permitted on Wikipedia.
  • The external links section is far too large, especially when it is noted that every single link (except one) is a page of the University website. Retain the links to the four colleges, and the link for main page of the university website. The USF sports website only has one section that relates to USFSP (women's sailing; the men don't rate a page), so you might want to reconsider its inclusion, or link directly to the women's sailing page at http://www.gousfbulls.com/SportSelect.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=7700&KEY=&SPID=2913&SPSID=36610. All of the other links are unnecessary.
  • Find some external references. At first blush, this article is very well-referenced. However, all of the links except one are either links from the University's web site or links to the university newspaper website. (There is one link to a biography of Nelson Poynter that is off-site.) Exclusive self-linking is a hallmark of non-notable subjects, which is not the case with a fully-accredited university. There must be some reporting on the university other than its own sites.
  • Use the citation templates provided at Wikipedia:Citation templates. The templates provide better context than bare cites such as what the article currently uses.
  • Why is this categorized under Oak Ridge Associated Universities? There is no explanation for the affiliation, and there is no obvious link (such as an Applied Physics progam, or any programs that deal with Nuclear power.)
