[edit] Notable Alumni

No disrespect to John Maguire, but his citation to be notable is somewhat thin and his blog doesn't give any more reason to be so. Could someone add the publications/broadcasts he has been involved in? Dowlingm 15:44, 22 December 2005 (UTC)

Well Mark, I feel you are very wrong. John Maguire is one of about four Film Critics employed by the Irish Independent Newspaper do Review all new Movie Releases. He is also the sole Movie Critic for the Morning Radio Show on Today FM - Ireland's largest non-state owned Radio Station. Until recently he also appeared on RTE One Afternoon Televison giving Movie Reviews. In conclusion, as the Irish Independent sell 500,000 copies a day, it is very possible that more people hear John's opinion on a Movie than from any other Critic within the Republic of Ireland. Cathal Kelly was the first U.L. student to break out of the First Round of the Irish Times Competition - but it was in either 1989 or 1990 - NOT 1992 as previously stated. I corrected this. Also the Auditor(s) or the 1995-96 Academic Year was John McElligott - for both Semesters. Mark Dowling was Auditor sometime in 1996-97 or 1997-98. (Am I right about this Mark?) Brian, my issue with John Maguire's citation was not that he was not notable, but that the reasons for his notability were not clear from the citation. I trust you will amend with links to some of his work. As I graduated in 95-6 Brian you are not correct about my auditorship, which ran from Worlds (when John McE resigned) through to the 1996 AGM. As for Cathal Kelly's IT break - you could well be right about this but my understanding from a long-ago conversation with him was that it was 1991-2 - perhaps the year should be removed if not verifiable.
