[edit] Name

Não seria melhor definir o nome do atalho segundo o nome português da universidade (universidade de coimbra) em vez do termo em inglês ?

This is the english wikipedia, do use the english language so that everyone can understand what you mean. I don't think you should use the portuguese name as the title: see Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English). My doubt is wether this is the correct name or rather "Coimbra University". --koenige 23:10, 19 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] The Seal of the University

The color of the seal is dark green, not blue.

Yeah, blue refers only to the humanities faculty as yellow is medicine or red is law...and so on...

Now it is green. The correct color.

[edit] Traditions

"a black suit and cape used on special occasions by the students"

:(

[edit] Praxe is the same as any other country

I and many portuguese people belive it's a matter of time till "praxe" reach the same level as hazing in other countries. the fact is that, in Portugal, one person already died because of that and there is a considerable amount of pictures of undeniable abuse inside and out of the internet. Wanting to make someone suffer is natural, what aint natural is the power the individual have, nowdays, to please his desires, I gess.

I'm a journalist in the portuguese public radio and tv (rdp/rtp), and I must say I'm quiet surprised with the statement that someone died because of "praxe" practises.-It's simply not true! for a question of credibility the author of such information sould have the moral obligation of refering when did it hapened, who died, where did it hapen, who was arrested and condemned.-The problem, I do believe, is that the author of that "information" can't give us this facts, simply because nothing hapened, except author's innuendo and lack of honnesty.----Joaquim Reis

[edit] Removed Coimbra from "See also"

I removed Coimbra from the "See also" section as I think it's pretty easy for anyone to figure out this is the city the University is at, and go to Coimbra's article if they're so inclined. The abstract begining the article already links to it, so it's redundant to put it here too. This section should link to things related to the University that are not imediately associated to it by an unknowing reader. --koenige 17:07, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] university seal

I can't find a good image of the university seal anywhere. The article needs one in the infobox. Page Up 12:42, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

::I found one fine image. Page Up 21:22, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Students Lore, not Students Folklore

Lore in the English language refers to "knowledge or tradition pertaining to specific groups of people." You can therefore have, for instance, sailors lore, gypsies lore, and folklore which is simply the lore of common folks. To English speaking people the expression "Students Folklore" is then absurd and sounds wrong. I urge the people that keep this entry in their watch list to make the change to "Students Lore" as that is the correct usage.

Also the sentence ending "to protect the match industry", should read "to protect the matches industry". Deep Atlantic Blue (talk) 11:40, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Incorrect Statement on Coimbra's QS ranking

The article states that Coimbra is the top ranked university in the Portuguese-speaking world according to the THES/QS ranking of world universities. That is factually incorrect ! According to the latest QS ranking, Coimbra is ranked #318, below the University of São Paulo (#175) and the University of Campinas (#177).
