Talk:University of Alabama School of Law
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I've added the law school infobox with as much data as I could find, and done some additions to the text - basically just what's available from the rankings and their own web site. I don't go to the school, so can't add much to it bar what's easily available to all - hope this helps the clean-up some. Mnemeson 20:42, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Outright falsifications
-According to the new US News and World Report rankings, the Alabama bar passage rate is 97%, not 98.5%. -According to the newest law journal rankings, the Alabama Law Review is the 98th most-cited journal in the nation, not the 25th. (http://lawlib.wlu.edu/LJ/index.aspx) -According to its own admission, the average GPA for last years class was a 3.49, not a 3.56.
I'm wondering if the reason why Alabama jumped in the new US News rankings is because it fabricated its numbers in its annual report (much like those in this website have been fabricated) instead of earning its place. This would explain why it is statistically inferior to the other schools that are tied with it at #36.
Who the heck is the author of the "falsification" section and why don't we know who it is?
[edit] In response to "Outright Falsifications"
Outright falsifications is a gross exaggeration. The first point is possibly a rounding issue (the page says 98, not 98.5) and is not statistically significant; the second point cannot be conclusively proven either way by citing Washington and Lee's website because citation statistics can be subjective, incomplete and drawn from numerous other sources; the last point is again a question of statistical interpretation as the median undergraduate GPA of entering students (according to the Alabama Admissions website) is 3.63: whether or not the median or mean GPA is more accurate is a very important consideration when it comes to evaluating the competitiveness of admission. Many would consider median to be much more important than mean when factoring in the large influence of outliers.
I don't see any evidence supporting the concluding remarks of the anonymous author. I'm quite sure that if a well-regarded state law school fabricated numbers in their annual report, they would be easily caught and punished. This does not seem to be the case. The assertion that Alabama is 'statistically inferior' to other schools ranked #36 in USN is not well supported. For the record, I am not affiliated with the law school in any capacity. I am, however, affiliated with another law school that is also ranked #36 in USN. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.5.34.191 (talk) 04:50, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
