[edit] A few notes

I'm slowly building this page on the basis of world records in swimming. Here are a few notes:

1. The basic source for these records is the USA Swimming website, since they approve new records. However, they are further behind than even FINA is on world records, so the backup option is the Swimming World magazine website. They of course aren't as accurate, although their news reports are pretty quick (even though they completely they got beat by Timed Finals on the Bal record!). Right now, the records are as accurate as Swimming World magazine's website, so if any have been set in the last month or so, I don't know about them.

2. As one progresses down the records pecking order, records are less reported (long course more than short course and short course meters much more than short course yards). United States Open records are rarely reported, but there is a slight advantage that they must occur in the United States, so the results are generally uploaded by the USA Swimming LSC's eventually. Checking the USA Swimming database from time to time might be a good idea.

3. The "team" column is for the team that a swimmer is representing in that particular swim. The country should be used if the swimmer represents that country's national team (so in a few instances, a club appears instead of "USA" or another country).

Hopefully this is of use! –Pakman044 01:15, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] References for new Open records

I've now added links to results for new (asterisked) US Open records. Seeing that the only comprehensive reference for these records that I've seen online is from USA Swimming, and it's infrequently updated, these should be noted so they are verifiable. There's no need to do this for American Records, as there are generally multiple reputable (timely!) sources when one of these are set. –Pakman044 19:18, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Men's 50 SCM Back AR

Even though there was a 23.42 at the recent Sydney World Cup start (good enough to tie the AR), it appears that some authorities have noticed what had already been observed here ([1] [2]). If USA Swimming is leaning towards the 23.39 effort of Marshall, it would probably be a smart idea to wait before annointing a new record.

I do need to go back and recheck these records (there aren't very many good authorities for US Open records unfortunately). –Pakman044 01:10, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
