[edit] Rufus King question

At the time of the 1804 election, King was not serving as Senator. He served from 1789-1796 and later 1813-1825. This raises two questions:

1) What is the Wikipedia policy about a former office holder? Should he be called 'former' Senator, or just Senator? We sometimes hear 'former President Bill Clinton' or 'ex-President Bill Clinton,' but I wonder if there is an official Wiki policy.

2) Usually it is good to distinguish between a U.S. Senator and a N.Y. State Senator. Calling Rufus King a "New York Senator" means a state senator to me. Is there an official Wiki policy on this? Chronicler3 23:12, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

It's a lot belated, but I've integrated your suggestions into the article. — DLJessup (talk) 17:13, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
1) Politically speaking, "former" is the preferred terminology. 2)I agree it should be worded "United States Senator". To my knowledge there is no official Wikipedia policy on these two. Just the editors preference. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rtr10 (talkcontribs) 02:33, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
