I don't think Audubon ever taught at or attended Union.

Please provide a source for Audubon's involvement with Union College or delete him from the listing of Professors, Alumni, and Students.(see previous comment).

[edit] Merging Nott Memorial to Union College

I believe that the Nott Memorial would be a good article by itself. It is a local landmark, and is often featured on local tv as backgrounds. Mpeltz 22:30, 29 January 2006 (UTC)Mpeltz

I'm not sure what the applicable standards are here. Nott Memorial was built inside the existing Union College (as opposed to the college being built around the memorial) and it's even dedicated and named for a president of the college. Everything about it relates to the college. On the other hand, your source certainly contains enough info to make a separate article. Maybe we need the expertise of someone knowledgable in architectural articles here to explain when is good to break such things out. —Wknight94 (talk) 22:40, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

I work on many college articles and it is not unusual to have articles about specific campus buildings. For example, Stanford#Campus lists several notable buildings that have, or should have, articles. Most college campuses do not have buildings that are notable. Nott Memorial seems sufficiently notable to warrant its own article, and the college article is sufficiently long that there's no reason to pad it out. -Will Beback 05:08, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Partiality

I would like to question the partiality of this article. Many Union students do not feel that the Greek system is a positive force on campus and would dispute the author's characterization of the greek system as having a "powerful positive influence on the campus and community." —This unsigned comment was added by Propervillan (talk • contribs) .

The burden is on the editor who added the material. The current text that was added back in June 2005:

• Greek life flourished at Union College throughout the 19th and 20th century. Despite suffering a decline in membership and chapters due to actions of the college's administration at the end of the 20th century and the very beginning of the 21st century, greek life continues to flourish and be a powerful positive influence on the campus and community. [1]

"Very beginning of the 21st century" sounds recent. Would it be better if we re-wrote this material to include a summary of the "actions"? The assertion that greek life is a positive influence is unverifiable POV, but if someone has said that then we can attribute the opinion. The assertion that it now "flourishes" despite a "decline in membership" needs more explaining. I think we should omit both sentences until we can specify just what is going on here. A bland "Greek life continues to the present day" line would be sufficiently accurate instead. -Will Beback 05:29, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hate crimes?

Rather than reverting back and forth about this hate crime section, can we discuss it here? What is the story here? Is this something that is supposedly prevalent at Union or is it an isolated incident that coincidentally happened here? Are we going to report every crime that has an article in the local newspaper?
