Spaatz (pictured) was the only General or equivalent rank that was present at three World War II capitulations: he was present at Rheims when the Germans surrendered to the Americans on May 7, 1945; he was at Berlin when the Germans surrendered to the Russians on May 9, 1945; and he was aboard the battleship Missouri in Tokyo Bay for the Japanese unconditional surrender on September 2, 1945.
