United States Navy Ammunition ship is a U.S. Navy ship that carried gunpowder and other munitions, such as shell and/or cannon ball, to ships in the field. Her primary task was replenishment of ammunition at sea, since most warships were fully loaded with munitions prior to initially leaving port.
