Understrike

Understrike was written in 1965 by John Gardner. John Gardner is famous for his espionage series of books and his additions to the 007 series of books.

NOTE: the following description does NOT apply to Gardner's novel, which is a comic espionage thriller.

The book's two main characters are Brian Mette and Donivan Stanford. Brian originally from Montreal, Canada suffered from the death of his parents and sister at an early age. Raised from adolescence in an orphanage, Brian quickly escapes and travels to California where he takes a job pushing drugs from his newly friend Donivan. As time progresses Brian gains access into the mob life and is later contracted to murder Donivan. Brian attempts the murder but when sneaking into Donivan's mansion is bombarded with booby traps. The book then goes on with massive collateral damage as the two try to kill each other over the Southern California region.
