Under the PINK Carpet is a television entertainment/news magazine series with a Queer twist seen on PBS (presented by WYBE-PBS-TV), cable and satellite TV stations in the USA and on OUTtv cable network in Canada and Australia. The goal of the series is to entertain and educate about the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi and Transgender) Community and to give exposure to Out artists and supportive individuals.
Under the PINK Carpet has best been described as the alternative TV version of "Entertainment Tonight" hybridized with "The Daily Show" Fast paced and informative, the program features coverage of Gay, Lesbian, Bi and Transgendered (LGBT) influenced music, theatre, film, television, and special events. Entertainment reports include interviews with high profile celebrities as well as personalities from the realm of underground and cutting edge LGBT entertainment.
But Under the PINK Carpet is more than just entertainment news. The show realistically and sometimes critically examines many aspects of the LGBT Sub Culture, providing a no holds barred glimpse behind the facade of a "fabulous" lifestyle.
The show is produced and directed by Tony Sawicki, who also serves as the primary correspondent. Sawicki is also the creator of the show that first started in Philadelphia before the production moved to New York City. Through Sawicki's hard work, talent and with the assistance of a brilliant crew, he was able to generate a notable, celebrated series that supports the LGBT Community. Also featured as news / entertainment correspondents are Drag Diva personality Lady Clover Honey (the first and only Transgendered reporter on national TV), Lesbian comedian and performance artist Robin Cloud, and attorney, producer and self-described "Fag-Hag" Stephanie Butler. Stand-up comic Michele Balan was an Under the PINK Carpet cast member before achieving network fame as a top contestant on NBC's "Last Comic Standing".
