Unchahar is a town and a nagar panchayat in Rae Bareli district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

As of 2001 India census[1], Unchahar had a population of 9305. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Unchahar has an average literacy rate of 57%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 66%, and female literacy is 48%. In Unchahar, 17% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Unchahar is basically known for N.T.P.C Power plant, which has capacity of 1050 MW. there are 3 main schools in the N.T.P.C Campus ; first, oldest and largest is DAV Public School, run by DAV management, second is Chinmaya Vidhyalaya, run by Chinmaya mission and the third is Saraswati Shishu Mandir.
Unchahar has a small residential area known as Mustafabad, which has given a lot of literary people to Urdu Language. Muharram is one of the most talk about ritual overthere.
