Category talk:Uncategorised films

[edit] Important Note
If this category is empty, that does not mean it is useless. Rather, it means that it is being used to process a large number of films through quickly, and it is a success. At least forty films pass through here a week - do not delete it, and especially do not delete it without discussion! Aelfthrytha 19:01, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- Agreed. This seems like a useful category and very similar to Category:Uncategorised books and Category:Uncategorised albums. No reason to delete without discussion. Prolog 19:13, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Simple Opinion
This category, should be mentioned along with others, in a central instruction panel, easily noticed by contributing users. I have only 2 months of experience in Wikipedia and still what "Categories" means isn't clear to me, although I do keep trying to figure it out. It's another namespace, some level up over main, it helps keep track of some things massively, according to its function. A simple contributing user, could help optimally if when one comes to WikiProject Films, one finds some softly colored table showing very clearly (and undisputedly) where to enter a film at best, and which categories to assign, if one knows of some. Uncategorised films could be a tag to add if one doesn't know which categories to give, because he doesn't know the matelial entered. However, another use here, could be placing intentionally some films which by their nature cannot fit easily in any other given categories (there at the panel). As someone mentioned, for the first type of casual entry, it is enough that it is assigned one general parent-category (such as Category:Films) to count as uncategorized. Cleaning a general list of uncategorised items is easy. I think this category would be most useful to remain for entries hard to fit in other categories and to be kept free of casual use, or to create a subcategory for the hard cases. I am for making one set of general guidelines that clear out where users should enter a film "just so", and how to help if they know for sure some categories to add. The way I see it is that it will be easier to track down films if everyone follows some nicely set guidelines. Hoverfish 16:54, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
