Ulrich Borowka

Ulrich Borowka (born May 19, 1962) is a former German footballer.
In the Bundesliga he played for Werder Bremen and Borussia Mönchengladbach. Between 1981 and 1996 Borowka played 388 games, scoring 19 goals. He became league champion with Werder Bremen in 1988 and 1993, and he won the German Cup in 1991 and 1994.
Borowka was a versatile blue-collar worker, both as back or in the defensive midfield. His footballing ability was notoriously limited, but he had a reputation as a tough, physical defender and featured a hard shot.
Borowka unfortunately had problems with alcoholism later in his career, and was prone to domestic violence against his wife. He managed to overcome these problems, however.
Borowka was also the first German footballer who played in a Polish league, for Widzew Łódź.
He earned six caps for West Germany.
