The Chinese Elm Ulmus parvifolia cultivar 'Matthew' is one of three recent (< 2006) American introductions selected for their cold hardiness (USA zone 4 tolerant). The tree has an upright vase-shape, strong branches, and a bark that exfoliates at a relatively early age. It is not known to be in cultivation in Europe or Australasia.
