The Chinese Elm Ulmus parvifolia Jacq. cultivar 'Drake' has upright, spreading branches bearing dark-green leaves [1]. The tree is also distinguished by having a bark that begins exfoliating at a relatively young age [2]. Marketed by the Monrovia Nursery of Azusa, California from 1952-53, it became the most popular form of parvifolia planted in the southern and western states of the USA [2]. 'Drake' is not known to have been introduced to Europe or Australasia.
