The Smooth-leaved Elm Ulmus minor subsp. minor cultivar 'Pendula' was listed by C. de Vos [2] in Handboek 20, 1887, as Ulmus sativa pendula, and much later by Boom [3] in Ned. Dendr. 1: 158, 1959, as a cultivar. Described as having slender pendulous branches, and having been raised in Belgium in 1863. Young twigs are prone to dieback in hard winters [1].
